CP3 swagged out!

Eric Woodyard on meeting Chris Paul:

I actually was in the locker room at the Palace of Auburn Hills after the Piston played the New Orleans Hornets and I was doing an interview with Morris Peterson when Chris Paul walked past. Being that Im from Flint, Mo Pete took it upon himself to introduce me to CP3 personally making sure he added that I was a Flintstone! CP added ‘Aw we got another one in here, that’s all he (Mo Pete) talks about,” and this transitioned into an interview. He was a humble guy.

*Chris Paul is a point guard for the New Orleans Hornets and arguably the ‘best point guard’ in the game today. Here is the “Game Notes” that ran slamonline.com from our encounter.

Eric Woodyard on meeting Andre Dirrell:

He was a really cool guy…very humble! I met him at Mateen Cleaves’ “Piece of Mine” Initiative at Berston Fieldhouse in Flint, Mich. We are both Flintstones so he was asking me about the things that I was doing in the field of Journalism and he was just as attentive in what I was doing as what he was doing. He even asked how to see some of my work and took my business card.”

*Andre Dirrell won the bronze medal in the 2004 Olympics, he fought in the Middleweight divison. Since turning pro, Dirrell remains undefeated and will be fighting for the Super Middleweight crown on October 17th.

Pardeep Toor on meeting Tony Dungy:

I met coach Tony Dungy in the summer of 2006 at his football camp in Jackson, Michigan. He’s from Jackson and holds a camp at his former high school every year. We talked about how hard it is to win a super bowl (this was the year before they won), Peyton Manning, his loyalties to the Jackson area and suicide. He was cool.

*Tony Dungy is a former professional football player and the current head coach of the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL.

Wendale Farrow on meeting “The Iceman”:

“I met George “The Iceman” Gervin when he came back to our school to receive his degree. This man had jokes for days. He said ‘If u look in the mirror and yo reflection’s lookin down you ain’t ready.’ We all went home and looked in the mirror that night too just to make sure we was ready.”

*George Gervin is a walking legend! Only Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan have led the league in scoring more times than Gervin. The Detroit native’s  NBA career scoring average was 26.2 points per game as he starred for the San Antonio Spurs in the 1970’s. He also has one of the coldest Nike posters of all-time!
